Temples Farm Lagoon Clearance

Occasionally Jex Plant will get contracted to do desilting projects where other contractors have been but been unable to carry out the work because they do not have the right equipment or technical know-how to do so.

That was the case at Temples Farm in Norfolk.

At Temples farm there is a bio-digestion plant (also known as an AD Plant) that converts the gases extracted from Cow manure into electricity. The byproduct of the process is a very fibrous material which is transferred to a holding lagoon. When the level of the fibrous material gets to a certain level it needs to be removed to make space for more. This can be very difficult to remove from a PVC or Membrane liner without damaging it.

In this case, the material at the bottom of the lagoon was approximately 1 metre deep and with the lagoon being approximately 70 metres long and 7 to 8 metres wide.

Our pumping system was the ideal choice for removing this material without damaging the lagoon liner.

Because the material was very rich in nitrates and to prevent a nitrate spike on the land it was destined to be spread on, it was first pumped out of the lagoon into a specified area so that so that it could be watered up again prior to being spread on the land.
