The Fitzwilliam Wentworth Estate near Rotherham has 4 ponds and lakes that were overgrown with weed and silted up to a high degree.
Jex silt Pumping Ltd was called upon to restore these ponds and lake to their former glory.
The first task of this project was to remove the fish from the lakes and then drain the water out prior to the desilting operations.
The silt was to be removed from the base of the ponds and lakes and then placed around the banks to be shaped and landscaped. Because of this, we did not use our silt pumping equipment, instead using our 13 tonne long-reach excavator and our smaller excavator that was taken out to the centre of the lakes to reach parts that the long-reach couldn’t. For this we used bog mats and ground protection boards to ensure we didn’t damage the base of the lakes.
When the silt was removed it was placed around the banks and shaped to form a new bank. When the silt had dried out, it was landscaped and set with grass seed.
